What is a Pelvic Ultrasound?
A pelvic ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging test that uses sound waves (not radiation) to evaluate the pelvic organs, including:
- Uterus
- Ovaries
- Cervix
- Fallopian tubes
- Bladder and surrounding pelvic structures
It is commonly used to diagnose symptoms, monitor conditions, and confirm early pregnancy.
There are two main types:
- Transabdominal ultrasound – performed over the lower abdomen
- Transvaginal ultrasound – performed internally for more detailed imaging
Your provider will determine the most appropriate method based on your symptoms and clinical needs.
