What is a Pelvic Ultrasound?

A pelvic ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging test that uses sound waves (not radiation) to evaluate the pelvic organs, including:

  • Uterus
  • Ovaries
  • Cervix
  • Fallopian tubes
  • Bladder and surrounding pelvic structures

It is commonly used to diagnose symptoms, monitor conditions, and confirm early pregnancy.

There are two main types:

  • Transabdominal ultrasound – performed over the lower abdomen
  • Transvaginal ultrasound – performed internally for more detailed imaging

Your provider will determine the most appropriate method based on your symptoms and clinical needs.
