Comprehensive Adolescent Gynecology Care at Montgomery
At Montgomery Gynecology, we support adolescents and young women through the physical and emotional changes of puberty with accurate, evidence-based care.
Under the leadership of Dr. Hema Jonnalagadda, we provide age-appropriate gynecologic services focused on education, prevention, and early care—so patients build a confident, informed relationship with their bodies.
A core principle we emphasize with every family: not all pelvic exams are Pap smears. Care is individualized, and many visits do not require an internal exam.
Our Approach
Respectful, confidential, and educational care
- Clear, age-appropriate explanations about menstrual cycles, hormones, and reproductive health
- Honest guidance on contraception, safety, and common myths
- A calm, private environment where teens can ask questions freely
- Partnership with parents/guardians while honoring adolescent confidentiality within legal guidelines
First Gynecology Visit: What to Expect
The first visit is primarily a conversation and basic health check.
Typical visit includes:
- Medical history, menstrual history, and symptoms
- Questions about lifestyle, school/sports, sleep, nutrition
- Education on periods, hygiene, cramps, and cycle tracking
- Discussion of vaccines, sexual health (as appropriate), and prevention
- External exam only if clinically needed
Pap smears and internal pelvic exams are not routine for teens and are performed only when medically indicated or when the patient is age-appropriate per current guidelines.
When to Schedule a Visit
Consider an adolescent gynecology visit for:
- Painful, heavy, irregular, or absent periods

- Concerns about puberty timing (early or delayed development)
- Acne or symptoms related to hormones
